Ronald K. Jones - Capital Finance Consultant
Ronald K. Jones is a fully rounded financial professional with more than 20 years of experience that includes having been an entrepreneur, investment banker, corporate lender, acquisition specialist and chief financial officer. Mr. Jones is a small business and non-profit specialist whose experience in financial management, as an entrepreneur and as a capital markets specialist spans the full spectrum of business and economic development.
Mr. Jones has a passion for serving the interest of small businesses and non-profit organizations. He has the requisite formal training, financial management expertise and varied business experience to help any organization meet the challenges of securing external financing from financial institutions, equity providers or the capital markets whether in the form of private equity or bond financing. Mr. Jones is well versed in developing and implementing internal controls and accounting systems.
Mr. Jones has developed a number of specialties including assisting organizations in accessing capital via traditional bank financing and/or the capital markets. Mr. Jones has honed his external financing skills in leveraged and acquisition financing having served as a Corporate Lender for Wells Fargo Bank and an Investment Banker and Acquisition Specialist for Salomon Brothers Smith Barney, Credit Suisse First Boston and SBK Brooks Investment Corp.
Most of Mr. Jones’ work in the investment banking arena in recent years has been focused on structuring taxable and tax exempt bond financings for a myriad of public purpose projects for city, county and state governments and their political subdivisions. Mr. Jones has worked extensively in the affordable housing arena. These transactions include financings for some of the largest and oldest public housing authorities in the country including the Chicago Housing Authority and Cleveland, Ohio’s Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority as well as others where tax exempt bonds and low income housing tax credits were used to finance multifamily projects for low income families and seniors.
In addition to serving as investment banker on a number of affordable housing projects that modeled the public-private partnerships that the Obama administration is now championing, Mr. Jones was an advisor to the strategic planning committee of SBK Brooks Investment Corp. that investigated the use of New Market Tax Credits and taxable and tax exempt bond as a form of financing commercial projects in low income communities. From that experience Mr. Jones served as advisor to several organizations investigating the use of New Market Tax Credits as a financing option for various projects under consideration.
While much of Mr. Jones’ career as a financial professional has served corporate and governmental interests his passions have never strayed far from the desire to use his professional skills and abilities to serve non-profit community based organizations. By first volunteering his services and then later setting up a financial consulting practice to serve community based non-profit organizations Mr. Jones has assisted a number of organizations in developing the financial infrastructure necessary to survive the rigorous demands of financial management. His experience includes the full range of duties and responsibilities of a Chief Financial Officer, including setting up accounting systems, internal controls, budgeting, developing cost allocation plans, strategic planning, reporting to senior management and the Board, representing the organization to the financial community and planning and supervising annual audits. The organizations that he has worked for have had annual budgets ranging from $7 million to nearly $35 million. Mr. Jones has lead finance teams of up to 25 staff members.
Mr. Jones received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati in Economics and obtained his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. Mr. Jones is also a licensed real estate professional through the California Department of Real Estate. Mr. Jones is married and has an infant daughter.
